Levels should be placed in a dry, well-ventilated, and temperature-controlled environment, avoiding humidity, high temperatures, or direct sunlight. Excessive humidity may cause mold growth on optical components or rust on metal parts, while high temperatures may affect the sensor and battery performance of electronic levels.
The instrument should be stored in a dedicated protective case to prevent dust ingress and mechanical impact. The tripod should ideally be stored separately from the instrument, or securely fixed in a protective case to prevent damage during transportation or handling.
Before long-term storage, the instrument should be cleaned and critical components such as lenses, the optical system, leveling screws, and compensators should be inspected. For electronic levels, batteries should be removed or kept at a moderate charge to prevent battery leakage or damage to the circuitry. Regular inspection and maintenance ensure the instrument is in optimal condition before use.
